Extension Cord Holder
|
We all have extension cords laying around that have bad ends on them. This neat extension cord holder makes great use of these old cords.
Extension cords, especially long ones, can be a real mess to string out and coil back up. Also plugs on the ends can become damaged by just yanking on the cord to unplug a tool. This is a good project to untangle those cords and fix the old damaged ones.

Saw Blade Holder
|
I have some pretty nice saw blades for my table saw but unfortunately I just keep them in a pile in my cupboard. Not only does it make it hard to find the one I'm looking for but I'm sure it's not good for the blades. This box should do the trick to solve both problems.

Tool Tune Up
|
One of the things that often get overlooked is the condition of your power tools. We get to working on projects and after a while start to wonder why those miters just don't quite come together. Pieces that use to fit seem to be off a little bit. Well it could quite possibly be that your power tools are starting to drift a little bit.

Plywood Carrier
|
One of the more awkward things to handle around the shop is big sheets of plywood. With my bad shoulder it's almost impossible but with this handy device it's a breeze. Put the plywood in the notch, pick it up with the handle and balance the top with your other hand. Now that's a lot better than the alternative!

Shop Safety
|
We thought this might be a good time to remind you about safety in the wood shop. Winter is coming and there is a good chance that you'll be spending more time working on those holiday projects and all those neat wood projects you just never could get to all summer long. It's always better to take a few minutes and think about safety then it is to spend a lifetime in pain.

Beam Scribe
|
This Beam Scribe is a great little addition to you tool kit and it also makes a nice gift for that woodworker in your family.

Table Saw Sled
|
Table Saw Sleds are great for making accurate cuts. They are also really good for making set ups for repeatable cuts. We think you'll find this an easy yet great addition to your woodshop tools.

Centering Tool
|
Here's a handy little tool for marking the center on the edge of a board. It will work on just about any thickness of board.

Planner/Miter Saw Stand
|
This project was inspired from an article I saw in one of my woodworking books. Unfortunately I couldn't find the book again so I made my own plans. If you have a small shop like mine then every square inch of space needs to be optomized. This miter saw/planner stand helps serve that purpose. It will get my planer off of the bench and not take up much more area than my miter saw currently uses. It also gives me a couple of really nice drawers to store things.

Sandpaper Storage Cabinet
|
I had a real problem with storing my sandpaper. I would just pile it up in the cabinet and every time I wanted a particular grit I would dig through the pile. I finally got tired of this and did something about it. I designed and made this handy little storage box. There is now a place for each different grit as well as storage for different shapes of sandpaper and sanding belts.

Drill Press Table/Fence
|
I've seen lots of fancy drill press tables for large drill presses but never anything for the small bench top presses. I decided to take it upon myself to design and build my own. It looks very similar to the big ones and I've used some of ideas that looked like they would fit a small table. I use it on my 10" Delta, so your dimensions may be a little different. The result have been a table/fence that fits good and works good.

Router Vacuum
|
One of the messiest tools in my wood shop is the router. Every time I use it I have to break out the vacuum and clean up the shavings for the next fifteen minutes. I don't have one of those wonderful vacuum systems in my shop so I have to use my shop vac. This handy vacuum attachment helps eliminate that problem.

Zero Clearance Tablesaw Insert
|
If you need to do precision woodworking one of the necessary tools is a zero clearance table saw insert. The reason these are so important is because they help prevent tear-out on the bottom of the board that's being cut. They are simple to make and you should have one for each of you saw blades and different width dado cuts.

Japanese Saw and Chisel Rack
|
This project is pretty simple but solves a big problem. I got a set of Japanese saws for Christmas and I needed a place to store them. I sure didn't want them just laying around on benches or in cabinets. I decided that as long as I was building a place to store my saws I could use a place to store my chisels also.

BACK
Taper Sled
|
What I really needed were tapers cut on a 45 degree angle using a tablesaw that tilted the blade left as well as right. Not having such a critter I had to come up with a fixture that would do the job. I designed a universal 45 degree table sled!

BACK
Wood Storage Rack
|
Wood storage is always difficult to find for woodworkers and this system certainly would help take care of those 2" X 4"s, 2" X 12"s and smaller lumber stock.
You can make these hangers single sided or double sided depending on your storage needs. For a single hanger just lop off the second side from the dimensions.

Recovery From A Design Change

Have you ever had a project that changed direction once you got started on it? This is a story about one of those projects.

Ceiling Management
|
"Ceiling Management" may sound like a funny topic but if you are in the process of designing a new wood shop or remodeling an existing one ceiling management can be a big issue, as I recently found out.

BACK
Router Paddle Switch
|
I purchased a paddle On/Off switch, from Rockler, but there was no easy way to mount it securely to my tablesaw. The beauty of a paddle switch is that you can "kick" it off with your knee if you get into trouble. Because of that I wanted it mounted securely.

BACK
Wood/Clamp Storage Rack
|
I have been fighting my clamp storage for a long time along with trying to find a good place for sheet stock. My sheet stock leaned up against my roll-up door so that you would have to move it all in order to open the door. The final straw came when the top of my book case that my long clamps that had been hanging on collapsed dropping all my clamps on the floor.
I decided it was time to make some sort of storage rack that would hold both my clamps and my sheet wood. The following is what I came up with. Since every shop is different in allowable area I will just give general dimensions and show you what I did.

SawStop DRO
Wixey Saw Fence Digital Readout
|
I purchased the Wixey Tablesaw Digital Read Out (DRO) because everything I had read about it sounded really good. When it came I looked for ways to install it on my Saw Stop tablesaw and didn't find any instructions that looked like they would work. That prompted me to devise my own plan and it worked out great!
I had to do some improvising but now that it's mounted it works as advertised and is very accurate.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with a DRO it is a device that attaches to many different machines giving them the ability to have their adjustments presented on a screen in decimal, metric or fractional dimensions depending on the device. In the case of the tablesaw DRO to set the fence you just turn on the DRO and slide the fence to the dimension that you want shown in the readout and you're good to go.
