California Trip 2006

Day 11

Friday, October 6, 2006

A beautiful sunny morning but only 53 degrees out. It should warm up to around 70 before the day is out.

Today is another travel day but the good news is that we don't have all that far to go. We are headed for Dublin, California just outside of Oakland. That's where Ken's sister Diane and her husband Del live.

After a lazy wake up we just lounged around and watched the birds by the pond. The snowy egrets were really out and fun to watch fly.

After lunch it was time to pack up and hit the road south. The trip goes through a lot of flat country and all the fields are a golden color, nothing green. All the roads we've been on through California are terrible. The ones that aren't fixed should be and the ones that are fixed we not fixed correctly. We were on one stretch of freshly resurfaced road and there was already a big divot right in the middle of the lane. They don't prep the surface but just blacktop over what's already there.

We arrived at "Casa Del Diane", Diane and Del's beautiful home around 3:00 and set up camp in their driveway.

It's not a great embellishment to their neighborhood but we'll only be there for a few days.

While Ken's sister was trying to find things to go see and do we really just wanted to sit, talk and laugh. That's what we ended up doing. The are gracious hosts and we are just kicking back and having a nice relaxing time.
