RunnerDuck Raised Bed Project

STEP 13
PLACING THE POOL LINER

While putting the rocks in your river you need to be careful so you don't damage the liner. Some of the obvious things when placing rocks in your river are to select rocks that do not have sharp edges. We ordered a load of river rock and found lots of them that were broken making lots of sharp edges. We hand sorted through the pile for our river rocks.
Do not dump the rocks onto the liner, place them carefully to help prevent poking any holes. This includes not dropping the larger rocks.
Do not walk on the rocks once they are on the liner the added weight could poke holes.
Since our waterfall, river, pond and sump are all recirculating we didn't want to introduce a lot of dirt into the system. We washed all of our rocks before putting them in place.
Try not to make the rocks too deep. We ended up with about three layers of rocks which was too much. The reason it was too much was because of the restriction when the water flowed. It held back a lot of water that we hadn't planned on. This is one of the reasons that our sump ended up being undersized.
To add character to our stream and make it look more natural we mixed lots of sizes of rocks. Placing big rocks randomly in the middle of the stream made it look better.
Take a trip to the mountains or somewhere that a natural stream is flowing. Take a few pictures for reference later. This will really help achieve the most natural look possible.
