First we'll build the box for the cold frame by cutting the 1x10 cedar boards to length. If you want to get a little fancy you can miter the corners while you cut them to length or just cut them straight and butt fit the corners. My cold frame is four feet by two feet but you can make yours any size you want. Just a note here, I mitered my corners and in the weather they had a tendency to warp. You may just want to butt your corners. Cut 2 pieces 4' long and 2 pieces 2' long. Since we want the lid to slope a little bit we'll mark and cut the two side pieces first. Measure up 7" on one end, mark from there to the top of the other end and cut. Repeat that for both ends. Now set your saw at an angle that will match the side piece you just cut. Trim one of the 4' boards down to 7" wide with this bevel. This will help the lid fit tighter. I cut 2x2's for the inside corners. These will help hold the corners of the box together. Add a little glue to the corners and run 2 screws into the 2x2 from each side. ![]()
