What's New? One of our readers took us up on sending a picture of their pet. Bob B. from Glen Rose, Texas told us an interesting story about their cat. As many of you know by now our cat is call Miss Kitty Kitty and was a stray that came to our door, skinny and hungry. She's a common gray cat about three years old.
Here's what Bob wrote: "We got the picture (in the newsletter) when you first got Miss Kitty Kitty, you won't believe this but just before we got the picture from you, a stray kitten came meowing at the door, cold and skinny. We live in the country, I guess people just drop them off. Anyway my wife began feeding her and ask what should we name her? I said cat! She said how about Miss Kitty? She is grey, and has a mind of her own. We let her stay in the washroom because of the cold weather, we also let her stay in now, because the weather has been so hot.

Thanks Bob for sharing your story. If any others of you have a pet story you'd like to share we'd love to hear it.

How would you like to save a little money? I think we all would like to do that. Well the next time you are going to buy something online look for coupons first. I just bought some software and as I was entering the information I noticed a couple of boxes that wanted the coupon information. I didn't have a coupon but thought, hey why not go look for one. I typed the name of the product and "coupon", less the quotes, into Google and up popped a list of possible sites. I spent a little time looking through the different sites and sure enough I found a coupon for 20% off. Such a deal!
With not too much effort you can save a few bucks. This probably won't work for everything you want to buy on line but hey it sure doesn't hurt to take a few minutes and check before you buy.
SITE OF THE MONTH
We recently got an email from Shirley at CraftSavings.com asking if she could use one of our craft projects in her soon to be released E-book. Her craft E-books are full of many fun ideas and they are very inexpensive. But besides selling her E-books she has a whole bunch of great craft projects on her web site for free. Many of them are really funny and we'd say all of them are fun!
If you like crafts and are looking for some new ideas we'd suggest checking out Shirley's web site, www.craftsayings.com. There's something for everyone and many of the projects would be great to do with your kids and grand kids.
MARILYN'S CORNER
Stacked Rocks

People have been stacking rocks since Stonehenge and before. It's rumored that the Menehune in Hawaii stacked rocks to mark their trails or for possible religious reasons. When we went to Hawaii we saw stacked rocks and stacked a few of our own. This little project is sort of a take off on that history.
During my vacation with my sisters we made some stacked rocks and it was really fun to come up with a nice saying and bring home a memory of the trip.
Here's what you'll need.
- Stones, any size.
- Household glue. (not required if you want to free stack)
- Felt tipped permanent marker.
The hardest part of this project is finding the perfect stones. Since you are going to be gluing them they not have to be flat but it does help.
Glue your stack of stones one at a time and let them dry. It's good to have a larger stone on the bottom so you have a surface to write on.
Write a simple saying on the stones and that's it. They make nice gifts and they look good in your garden.
Take some glue and a marker with you on your next camping trip and stack some stones for your garden. Do not leave them in the forests for other people to find. Some people might consider it defacing nature and not appreciate it.
Remember we have all of our past projects archived on our web site at www.runnerduck.com. Just click on the Craft Egg.

CONSERVATION TIP
Irene took us up on our little challenge for our readers to send us some new conservation ideas. She writes: "My kitchen sink is quite a ways from my water heater so when I run hot water for dishes I run the water in a gallon jug until it gets hot. I have found that I run over a gallon of water before it gets hot, this is water I can use for something else. You can put the water in the jug into your washing machine. You can also use it to water plants.
Irene washes her dishes by hand but we believe the same theory applies to dishwashers. If you fill your dishwasher with cold water the internal heating elements will have to heat it up. If you let the water run until it gets hot and then start your dishwasher only hot water will go in and it won't have to heat it as much.
Thanks for the tip Irene. Now who else has some good conservation tips.
If you have a conservation tip please send it to kennyb@runnerduck.com and we'll post it in our newsletter.

COOKBOOK
SUGGESTION OF THE MONTH
"Everybody Loves Ramen: Recipes, Stories, Games, & Fun Facts About the Noodles You Love (Paperback)"
by Eric Hites

While we think our recipe using Ramen is really good there are many other ways to use this versatile product. This little cookbook has 50 recipes that will help you explore this noodle product.
One book reviewer from down south wrote: "Ramen may just be the perfect food - cheap, filling, and tasty. This small cookbook includes 50 recipes that incorporate the noodles. The recipes run the gamut from soups to salads to stir-fries to a burrito. I've made several of these recipes and have been very pleasantly surprised by how good they taste; I particularly like the Pseudo Szechwan Ramen recipe. Another plus is that many of these recipes do not use the ramen seasoning packet for flavoring, which is great given its extremely high sodium content.

PROJECTS
Storage Shed

This project was inspired by Marilyn who wanted a small storage shed near her potting table. We looked at a number of different plans but none quite suited her so I came up with my own design. It's pretty simple to build and should only take a couple of weekends. Since it's such a long and detailed project we'll only show you the hight points here.
The construction is really quite simple and modular. I built the floor first and attached the side frames to it.
The roof was made as a subassembly and attached to the side frames.
The back is one sheet of plywood screwed to the frames and roof. This is what it looked like before I put on the siding, shingles and doors.

The door handles are from old garden tools and I made the door latch.

To see the rest of this project go to www.runnerduck.com/storage_shed/storage_shed.htm.
If you have a project that you would like to share please send us an email and we'll help get it published in the RunnerDuck review. We are looking for woodworking, gardening, crafts and kids projects so send us your thoughts at kennyb@runnerduck.com.
