     This was one of Marilyn's moms favorite fruit cake recipes.

  • 1 Cup Water
  • 3/4 Cup Shortening
  • 1 teaspoon Soda
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Cup Raisins
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cloves
  • 2 Cups Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
Bring everything but the Flour and Soda to boil in a sauce pan.
Let cool to room temperature.
Blend in the Flour and Soda.
Pour into a greased and floured 9" X 9" baking dish.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 40 to 50 minutes.

This fruit cake could probably be mailed, not like some fruit cake we've known. Give it a try, we think you will be pleasantly surprised.
