With spring just around the corner we soon will have flowers blooming. A really fun thing to do is press flowers to use in other art projects. This week we'll build a flower press.

Here's what you'll need:

  • 2 1/4" - 1/2" pieces of plywood cut 7 1/2" X 7 1/2".
  • 4 1/4" X 3" bolts, flat washers and wing nuts.
  • Blotting paper
Cut the pieces of plywood and drill a 1/4" diameter hole in each corner. Hold the pieces tightly together when you drill so the holes will line up.
Drill the four holes a little bigger on the top piece so the bolts will go through easier.

Flower Press

Put a piece of blotting paper on the bottom, lay in your flower and put a piece of blotting paper on top. Keep stacking them up like this until you have all your flowers in your press. Put a piece of cardboard on top of the last piece of paper then bolt down the top piece of plywood.
Let the flowers dry really good, about two weeks, and then open up your press to get your dried flowers.
We used dried flowers for the top of our press shown above.

Send us a picture of your creation and we'll post it on our web page at RunnerDucklings Kids Corner.
