Duck Family
This project appeared in our May 30th, 2003 Newsletter.

This is a cute little project that will make your garden look like a fun place to be. It comes from Marilyn's dad Frank who made these many years ago. They are simple enough that the kids could help make them for Father's Day. If they do help be sure to supervise them to keep them safe.

Here's what you'll need:
  • 3/4" wood 7" X 9", this could be cedar, pine or just about anything.
  • 3/4" wood 15" X 5".
  • 28" of 1/4" thread stock or a gutter nail with the head cut off.
  • Paint
Trace the duck designs from the pattern's on our web site. There are four patterns, one for each side of the mama duck and one for each side of the baby ducks. The patterns are mirror images so use one for cutting and painting and the other for just painting.

Using a jig saw or scroll saw, cut out one mama duck and three baby ducks. You can always cut out more if you want.
Sand the edges smooth.
Drill a 1/4" hole 1" deep in the center of the bottom of each duck.
Cut the thread stock to 7".
Glue and insert the thread stock into each of the ducks.
Paint the mama duck white and then add the accents from the pattern.
Paint the baby ducks yellow and add the accents from the pattern.

That's all there is to it. Just put them in the garden and enjoy.
