DigiTalkAfter I installed my new motherboard Windows XP would not load. I tried a bunch of different things and finally decided to boot from the Windows disk and perform a repair. When you boot from the Windows XP CD you have an option of doing a fresh install or a repair. Since I didn't want to mess things up too much I opted of the repair. IT WORKED! I was excited to say the least. At least I was excited until I noticed that things just weren't right. Some of my peripherals seemed to be affecting the way things ran. After a lot of fiddling around I went to the Microsoft web site and had it check my system for any updates that might be required. Sure enough service pack SP1 was not installed as well as some of the security patches. I proceeded to spend the next few hours installing everything and now all is well. All this to say, if you ever have to run "repair" from you Windows CD be sure to go out and get all the updates from the Microsoft web site. It pretty much acts like a new install, which is something I never knew. Like I always say, live and learn! SITE OF THE WEEK
If you've been following along I've been building a new computer to do video editing. I told you that I would fill you in on the different challenges I have as I go along. Well with summer here and lots of videos being taken you may not want to wait for me so we've found a site that has a ton of information on getting into video.
They sell most everything they talk about and their prices don't look too bad. The important thing is that they have a lot of great information. If you are anxious to get started creating your next masterpiece go to www.videoguys.com/started.html the VideoGuys web site and start reading. Who knows you might just be the next Spielberg!

Water, particularly in the western states, is going to become less available as the summer wears on. I still drive down the street and see people watering their yards with a fine mist sprinkler in the middle of a hot afternoon. Depending on the sprinkler and conditions about 20% of the water will evaporate into the air. To prevent this get a sprinkler that doesn't mist so much but has more of a stream of water. Once you've got that water your lawn but only early in the morning or late in the evening. Evening is best because it gives the water time to soak into the ground a little and the plants a chance to drink a few gulps.
You also only need to water good a couple of times a week. Give the lawn a good soaking and then let it go for a few days. Your lawn will be happier and so will your fellow water users.
If you have a conservation tip please send it to conservation@runnerduck.com and we'll post it in our newsletter.

Wood Pusher
This is one of those "must haves" for working in your shop. It's a pusher to help hold the wood solid while you are running it through your table saw or router. It's also good for safety because it helps keep your fingers away from the cutting area. They are so easy to make I'd suggest making several different sizes.
Here's what you'll need:
4" X 10 1/2" X 1/2" fir or other good wood
Cut your base 4" X 10 1/2" or any size that suites you.
9" 2" X 4"
(4) #6 X 1 1/2" deck screws
80 grit sandpaper
Glue
Cut a 2" X 4" 9" long or to fit your base.
Draw out a pattern on the center of the 2" X 4", 5" X 2 1/2". This will leave a handle 1" thick and 5" long.
Cut out the center of the 2" X 4" on a band saw or saber saw.
Round the edges of the top side of the bottom with a 5/16" roundover bit.
Round the edges of the handle with a 1/2" roundover bit. Route the inside and outside of the handle but not the ends.
Center the handle on the base and lay out the holes for four screws about 1" apart on each end.
Pre drill and countersink the holes in the bottom.
Align and mark the holes on the bottom of the handle. Pre drill these holes.
Glue and screw the bottom to the handle making sure that the screws are below the surface.
Cut a piece of 80 grit sandpaper to fit the bottom. Glue and clamp it to the bottom and let the glue dry thoroughly before using.
That's it! Now make several sizes and then saw up a storm.
We hope you liked this project. If you build it and your friends ask where you got such a clever idea, please tell them that you got it at RunnerDuck.com.
This week's humor comes to us from Frank M.
A Husband Wal Mart Shopping Center has opened in Atlanta, where a woman can go to choose from among many men to be her husband.
It is laid out in five floors, with the men increasing in positive attributes as you ascend. There is, however, a catch. You're only allowed in once. Once you open the door to any floor, you must choose a man from that floor. If you go up a floor, you can't go back down except to exit the building. So, a woman goes to the shopping center to find a husband.
On the first floor the sign on the door says:
The woman reads the sign. "Well, that's better than not having jobs, or not loving kids, but I wonder what's further up?" So up she goes.
The second floor sign says:
"Hmmm, better," says the woman. "But I wonder what's further up?"
The third floor sign reads:
"Wow," says the woman, "very tempting. BUT, there's more further up!" And so again, she goes up.
On the fourth floor the sign reads:
"Oh, mercy me." (That's how women talk in Georgia) "But just think... what must be awaiting me further up?" So up
to the fifth floor she goes.
The sign on that door says:
Floor 1: These men have jobs and love kids.
Floor 2: These men have high-paying jobs, love kids and are extremely good-looking.
Floor 3: These men have high-paying jobs, love kids, are extremely good-looking and help with the housework.
Floor 4: These men have high-paying jobs, love kids, are extremely good-looking, help with the housework and have
a strong romantic streak.
Floor 5: This floor is just to prove that women are impossible to please. Thank you for shopping Wal Mart.
